What is the difference between divination and being psychic?

Suggestion by wushuboy001
The main difference is that divination refers to talking to higher beings/gods to find out information. Being a psychic is finding out information through your own magic abilities.

Suggestion by Erick
Divination is the art or gift of prophecy (or the pretense of prophecy) by supernatural means, and a psychic is a person sensitive to things beyond the natural range of perception.

So if someone is a psychic they could have divination abilities.

A psychic is the person itself that could have abilities such as: divination, telekinesis, etc.

Hope that answers your question :).

Being psychic refers to an ability to access information that cannot be otherwise accessed using your 5 senses. That’s why its often referred to as a “sixth sense”.

There are many different types of “psychics”:
Clairvoyance – see images
Clair-audience – hear things
Clair-sentience – feel things
Mediums – communicate with spirits

Divination refers to the tools used to assist in accessing information. For example, tarot cards, oracle cards, dowsing, scrying, crystal balls, black mirrors, cowrie shells, chicken bones, tarot cubes, angel cards, tea leaf reading, palm reading, runes. etc.

Most psychics prefer to use one form of divination or another, but some do not. It all depends on the individual and their personal preferences.

Anyone can learn to use divination tools, even if you don’t feel you have a “gift” because many of these tools have specific definitions. Its a matter of practise and trusting your own intuition.

I hope that helps.

How do I know what type of magic to do?
I’m getting really into the religion of Wicca. Wicca is all about spirituality and using spells to help others and stuff, but there are certain types of magic you can do. Like candle magic or crystal magic (and more). How do I know which one fits me?

“Wicca is all about spirituality and using spells to help others and stuff, but there are certain types of magic you can do.”

Judaism is all about spirituality and using broadway shows to help others and stuff, but there are certain types of bagels you can eat.

Christianity is all about jewelry and wearing crosses to help others and stuff, but there are certain types of teeshirts you can wear.

All the statements above are equally nonsensical.

THAT IS NOT WHAT WICCA IS.

Wicca is NOT about “using spells to help others and stuff.” Anyone can do magic. It’s not religion-specific. Wicca is a religion. It’s about our relationship with the gods.

It just depends what feels right for you! Here’s some things you can look into, they’re not all magick and not all of them are about wicca but they are very interesting and mystical either way! You could try:
    Astrology
    Numerolgy
    Palm reading
    Tarot reading
    Angel cards
    Runes
    Scrying/fortune telling
    Crystal healing
    Chakra healing
    Aura healing
    Candle magic
    Energy magic
    Kinesis
    Green magic
    White magic
    Goddess oracle cards
    Fairie cards
    Unicorn cards
    Arch angel cards
    Potions
    Reiki
    aroamatherepy
    Homeopathy
    Traditional home and folk remedies
    Chinese herbal medicine
    Herbal medicine
    Flower essences and oils
    ayurveda

There are probably many more types of magic but thats the only parts of magic I’ve looked into and tryed and they turned out successful. You probably noticed I put white and green magic, I know wicca states there isn’t any ‘colour’ to magic, it’s good or bad but I find it easier to lable them like that. White magic is magic for the good of yourself and others and green magic is healing people and makeing potions out of herbs. Hope I helped! Xx
    Blessed be )O(

Try them all and see what feels right to you . A lot of magick combines candles, crystals ,essential oils and herbs. This is my favorite kind to work because you have to know what the property’s of each one what they bring to the spell.

Youre getting into witchcraft more than wicca it sounds. Wicca doesnt have much to do about witchcraft since the main part of the religion is to get closer to the gods or nature, witchcraft is like an optional.

Magick is just the same as prayer and visualization and manifestation methods that help cause things to happen either through self suggestion or quantum mechanic observation effects (dont know how to say it). The tools are just for symbolism so go with what feels right for yourself. Also learning to mediate might be good.

Divination : Is the art or act of foretelling future events or revealing occult knowledge by means of augury or an alleged supernatural agency. It is not sth easy to explain ,but i’d say divination is used with the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation through process of reading signs ,events, omen or through alleged contact with the supernatural agency .Also by ritual.

Being psychic : Is a person who is sensitive to parapsychological forces and influences .The difference between divination and being psychic is that pychic are not foretellers,we are connected to the paranormal world differently.we are able to communicate with ghosts(from the past),we can tell if they are good or not and perhaps how they lived and what happened with them.So basically divination tries to guess the future and psychic ablities allow us to know about the past.

Divination is a psychic with props.

Divination is the attempt to foretell the future or discover occult knowledge by interpreting omens or by using paranormal or supernatural powers. The list of items that have been used in divination is extraordinary. Below are listed just a few. Many end in ‘mancy’, from the ancient Greek manteia (divination), or ‘scopy’, from the Greek skopein (to look into, to behold).

    # aeluromancy (dropping wheatcakes in water and interpreting the result)
    # aeromancy or acromancy (divination by examining what the air does to certain things)
    # alectoromancy or alectryomancy (divination by a rooster: grains of wheat are placed on letters and the rooster “spells” the message by selecting grains)
    # alphitomancy (dropping barleycakes in water and interpreting the result)
    # anthropomancy (divination by interpreting the organs of newly sacrificed humans)
    # arithmancy (divination by numbers)
    # astragalomancy or astragyromancy (using knucklebones marked with letters of the alphabet)
    # astrology
    # cephalomancy or cepthaleonomancy (divination by a donkey’s head)
    # ceromancy (by the melting of wax)
    # chalcomancy (by vessels of brass or other metal)
    # chiromancy (palmistry)
    # cleidomancy (divination by interpreting the movements of a key suspended by a thread from the nail of the third finger on a young virgin’s hand while one of the Psalms was recited)
    # coscinomancy (divination by a balanced sieve)
    # cromniomancy (divination by onions)
    # crystallomancy (by crystals)
    # dactylomancy (divination by means of rings put on the fingernails or the number of whorls and loops on the fingers)
    # daphnomancy (divination using the laurel branch: how did it crackle when burned?)
    # dowsing
    # lampadomancy (interpreting the movements of the flame of a lamp)
    # libanomancy or knissomancy (interpreting the smoke of incense)
    # lithomancy (divination using precious stones)
    # lecanomancy (dropping precious stones into water and listening for whistles)
    # tasseography (reading tea leaves)
    # tephromancy (by ashes)
    # theriomancy (divination by beasts)
    # tiromancy (interpreting the holes or mold in cheese)
    # tyromancy (by cheese)
    # urim v’tumim (reading sacred stones attached to
the breastplate of the high priest in ancient Judaism)
    # uromancy (divination by reading bubbles made by urinating in a pot)

None of these have any evidence that they work. But who needs proof?
